I was wanting to do my own removal the factory exaust and put on my true dual Rineharts. Is there any tricks or difficulties I may encounter?Would the factory gaskets reseal after 5000 miles at the exaust ports,if not I am gonna have to get some?08 EGS Thanks.
Worst part is getting the stock crap off, then it's a breeze. You can look for gaskets that don't expand onto the exhaust when crushed. Don't remember the brand but they are available. DO replace them or you're likely to have a leak.
Yep on the gaskets as the others have said. I've done 3 myself and 2 have been a complete bear to get the crossover separated from the right side pipe. One of them we actually cut it off with a hacksaw. The 3rd was a breeze.
1. loosen clamps on heat shields and joints in exhaust
2. start engine and run for a bit...to allow exhaust to heat up
3. spray wd40 on joints in exhaust system
after doing this, my RKC pipes came right apart and i put my duals on
On a basic stock configuration two into one is the best performance you can get, true duals will lose some bottom end torque. But you get rid of that hot pipe on your right thigh!
Agree with the other comments. Not a difficult task. If possible, spray down the joints with WD-40 and let them soak for a while. It makes disassembly of the stock set much easier. Also, make sure to appropriately tighten all of our joints as you want to avoid exahust leaks.
