I think the Classic looks best with leather and the non-classic best with hard-bags. I bought a Classic because I liked the nostalgic look of the leather, spokes and wide-white walls, but sometimes when I look at the non-classic road king, I think it looks equally good with the hard bags, cast spokes and thin white wall. But mixing and matching doesn't work as well for me...it's one or the other as coordinated components.
I came to the same conclusion today. Went riding today with my bud (w/ his RK Standard) and decided the hard bags didn't look right. I'm sticking with the leather bags, and will probably add the Nostalgic guard rails.
I loved the look of my hard bags, but I live out of my bike, and hard bags do not over as much "flex" as leather when I have more cargo, and I need as much space as possible.
