Have them both, but will likely not put the soft bags on again, in fact will sell to some discriminating buyer with the tourpak in leather as well; italian leather, bufallo insets, real silver conchos... beautiful

Hard all the way. Fit the profile of the RK better. IMHO.

My vote for leather
Leather ones are more classic - just right for RK Classic

I think it looks good either way. I have an 07 RKC All Black and have been thinking of doing the same thing.

Hard bags always plus lockable, leather does not keep shape and not so good if caught in the rain.

I'd say the Hard Bags look better on your bike. Matches the paint better.

Never have thought about it that much. Both lood good........but.........I had 97 Heritage Classic with the truly soft, studded, leather bags that are truly "classic". These semi hard/firm, covered in leather bags, I don't know, I'm just not a big fan. If you can't use the old "studded" soft leather bag, then I would go with the hard bags. It's like the "leather" tour pac, everybody knows it is just leather covered, in other words it is trying to look like something it is not, therefore it comes across as fake to me. Like I said at the beginning, never thought about it much until you brought it up. I guess to each his own, that is why we have choices. I would choose the hard bags. Besides, leather is hard to wax

as some one posted it`s all in the look your going for ? old school or modern/custom. i`ve been slowly changing the look of my 2003 RoadKing to a more custom look. but i still got some work to do. it would have been cheaper to get laced wheels and whitewall tire`s & leave well enough alone , oh well can`t turn back now.
