I should have also said that the search for routes that have both known names and a route number can be searched either way.

In my volunteer work with the police here, I serve subpoenas with a partner. One of those partners uses a garmin gps to find addresses for delivery of the paper. Not sure how he does it, but we've found addresses with number names and home addresses.

I think he first programs the street i.e. "2450 South", then the home address "1956 East". It leads us right to the house every time.

Nice sig pic chasenfish but you might want to look at the size limitation rules for the Forum. That pic is WAY to big.

Well I just had to try, I have a garmin zumo 450 - search address, select state, select city - or search all, enter address #, enter street name (ie south - for south street, 24 - for 24th ave, etc.) do not use direction identifiers (ie N,S,E,W, SW,SE, etc) unit should pull up a list streets with options of direction identifiers and ave, st, etc, select the match for your location wanted. Hope this helps, with gps units best to start generic search and work towards specifics.

Well, pretty much what you have all suggested, are all the variations I have tried. I suspect one of two things:

1. Garmin just flat out does not have the two streets I was searching for in their database.

2. The streets actually DO have a name, and I just don't know it.

I picked an actual number only address to use.

Menu - Where to? - Address - Spell State "U" - Utah - Search All

Enter House Number - "5401" - Done - "S 700 W" - Done

Pick the street wanted and hit go.

I've used this method when riding in UT.

I know that some of the named streets also has the number listed on the street sign, I have found that Garmin uses the street name not the number.

The street names in Utah can be a number. I live on 1910 West, meaning I am 19 blocks west of the Tabernacle and Main intersections. The first number is my actual residence address, meaning I am "x" blocks north or south of Tabernacle. Think of a GPS coordinate like 70W 110S on a mercator projection map.

Google used to use the same map database company, Navteq. Google now uses the inferior TeleAtlas database that TomTom uses. It's all about the money and strategic alliances.
