I'm riding around on the interstate last night on my Road King, when my bike suddenly shuts down completely for about 3/4 of a second, including the engine and headlights, but kicks back in like nothing is wrong. It did the same thing the day previous while pulling into a parking lot. She's not running poorly, so I'm leaning towards a short in the power switch. Any suggestions that may indicate otherwise?
A coworker has a Softail classic, I think, and pretty much the same thing happenes. Then last week it wouldnt start at all. Turns out the ignition switch is hosed. At least thats what he told me
I'll bet the farm it's your main power relay. It's a 40 amp unit mounted under the seat. The '01 & '02 bikes had problems with them going bad and tripping when they got hot. I think there was finally a technical service bulletin issued on this. If the dealer won't fix it for free (yeah, right) you can pick up a heavy duty replacement relay at most aotu parts stores. It's about a 15 minute job to replace.
Sounds like a short, I had something similar happen to an international scout. Finally found a wire rubbed clean and touching the frame, during a turn it would touch and kill everything.

+1
The 02's had a recall on the main circuit breaker, it would overheat and cause it to shut down. The dealer should be able to fix you up.
If it did your dealer should have the info on the wonderful old computer that knows more about anything then we care to know. A reliable dealer should check for you.
The '03's had a recall on the main breaker. They did mine on my old '03 and it still shut off once in a while. A later service bulletin said that if the problem continues, replace the connections on the cables at the breaker. Problem solved.
