There is an external crossover on the Infinity Kappas. That might be what you are referring to. They fit just fine. Several people here are running them. Personally I went with the Infinity Reference series. They were a little cheaper and IMO sound a little less harsh than the Kappas. If you have a Best Buy close to you go give them both a listen.
I'd like to add the Infiniti speakers as an upgrade to the fairing speakers in my 09 Street Glide. If I went to Best Buy, what size are they? The 5 1/4? I plan to put a detachable tour pak on in the spring and then add rear speakers. Can I go without an amp now and then get one when I add the rear speakers? It seems like I can from reading other posts, but I don't know anything about audio systems and I don't want to spend a lot experimenting. Thanks.
Yes the size you need is 5 1/4". But you can get them alot cheaper than Best Buy. Just go there to listen. I picked up mine thru Cartronix Plus.
As far as the rears I believe you will need an amp as well as the necessary wiring harness. You can run the fronts for now with no amp. I didn't bother with one because IMO this is a bike and I don't really need audiophile quality sound. I have that at home.
I have the Kappas -- excellent speakers -- Infinity did an excellent job on both the reference and kappas -- you can put 6 1/2 kappas in the fairing -- it will take 1 hour extra to get them in there but they will work. Had the 6 1/2 in my SG -- now have the 5 1/4 and 6x9 in my RG.
+1 on best buy -- they have an excellent return policy
