These things are supposed to fit the touring bikes but the nut on the axle is so much smaller then the inside round diameter of the cover. Anybody else notice this and if so, how did you manage to get that side on?

i don't know about the specific kit that you bought, but the one i got (the skull cover) came with a round insert that has a cut in it that goes over the nut (with the cut at 9 o'clock) that squeezes up against the nut when you tighten the set screw on the cover. mines been on for 6 months with no issues.....
Try to cut a piece of thin wall plastic pipe to fit or some tubing. Go walk around Homedepot for some ideas. Might have to get a longer screw to secure it but you can make it work.
It should either have the insert, or they are left/right specific. Check it out and see if it will fit the other side of the axle???
They are side specific (one should have a larger inside than the other)...maybe the ones you purchased got mixed up at packaging. Take them back to Harley and have them open another package to confirm or clarify.
Tip...Place the axle covers on the bike with the hole for the allen screw facing down, then put the adhesive decals on the covers.
It seems that the product description on the HD site reads that they will fit '08 and later touring bikes but on the package, Touring bikes are not listed.
Since it's wasn't my fault or Chicago HD fault, I have to pay to return them.
I will try to come up with a fix to install the nut side cover before I return them.
Why risk one falling off because you rigged it? Get the right part and sell those on this forum. You could recoup most/if not all of your payment and get the right part.
I put the chrome on the front axle nuts of my 09 SG. Caps for both sides are the same but one of the screws is longer. There are two holes in each cap--one closer to the openning is for XL and one farther from the openning is for everything else. The one on the left side is loose and screw barely catchs axle. I put on blue loctite and tightened secuely, but the left side wobbles when shaken. I am worried that one will fall off. Overall a disappointing fit. It seems like using the other screw hole (closer to openning) would grip the axle better--maybe the instructions are wrong?
Any other options here. These are fairly inexpensive and I like having the axle and nut covered, but I don't want one of these caps flying up into my rear tire.
