At 150 miles, I am looking for gas. AT 170 miles I am DESPERATELY looking for gas. Depending on how I have ridden on that tank of fuel, I may or may not see the fuel light at 170 miles, but, I would hate to have to push that heavy motorcycle very far. I have went into the 180's on a tank, but I was sweatin' it....
Here's a little trick... When you start getting down to about 1/3 of a tank remaining, be sure and start the engine with the bike upright - not on the jiffy stand. This will give you a more accurate "low fuel light".
Note: I can't vouch if this works for all the baggers but I can vouch 100% that it works with Dynas and those bikes with the dummy fuel cap gas gauge (eg. Road King). Until I learned this tip, it use to drive my nuts with my Low Rider when the low fuel light would come on at 100 miles.
Mine kind of depends on how and where I've been riding.
But my average was about 195.
I usually fuel up around 150.
But my light is normally on about 165 .
I have a lot of wind here and hills
My best mpg was 48.
My light kicks at around 180, if I ride nice around town I'm around 37mpg on the highway around 50 or so, solo. Your milage will get better at around 10K when the motor really breaks in, I have 19K now.
That sounds about right, but everyone's is a little different depending on what they did to the motor. Your getting 4-5 miles per gallon less thanI am, but your pulling more weight, riding habits may differ etc, etc, etc. Manual says light comes on...one gallon or so left. Start looking.
I got about 180 miles on 3.9 gallonsthis past weekend mostly highway at around 70 mph. I've got about 1900 miles on the bike. Best I've got yet. Seems to keep getting better.
I get around 37 average on the interstate depending on conditions. I have learned to set my trip meter when I fill up, and then note how many miles I've gone when the gas guage reads half full. If it is say 100 miles, then I have a 200 mile tank, plus a little extra. If it says 80, it is a 160 mile tank. Speed and wind vary the results a lot. My low fuel light usually comes on around 170 miles. A couple of weeks ago, riding down to Las Vegas in a hellacious headwind, I got 28.7 mpg trying to maintain the 75 mph speed limit. Never been that bad.[:'(]

RE: How many miles per tank
Light comes on anywhere between 135 and 150. Before I put on the SE air cleaner and Samson straight pipes and a map, I would go 180-190 before the light.
