You can either remove the heel shifter or get extended ones to get it out of the way.
I can take the heel shifter or without it. I took mine off in order to have more room for my size 9 boot. I can only imagine what it is like with a size 13.
If you don't use it, remove it. I remove mine. Another option is if you use it, to purchase that nifty aftermarket one that goes underneath the rider board and then up to the rear (name escapes me right now, but I'm sure someone will post a link or pic)
When I first got my SG, I had a couple issues with the heel shifter. Was going to remove it but got use to it and no longer have issues. I may still remove it some day as I don't use it and would make cleaning easier.
Yep, I took mine off the first week. I really dont get the reason for it, I mean I know what the purpose is but it sure got in the way. Do they have anything that covers the shaft splines to protect them?
I got 14 boats on my feet and really like my heel shifter. What I did for some extra room was to by HD's folding heel shifter. The rubber parts folds backward towards the rear of the bike. It opens about 60 degrees so I just leave it in that position. Gives me a lot of extra room and still sticks out enough to hit it with my heel when I upshift. It's in the HD parts book
Picking up a new SG later this week. It'll be my 3rd HD with the heel shifter. I'll probably remove it at the dealer for the ride home. I just can't use the darned things. HD sells a chrome cap that covers the exposed shaft that is left when you remove it. Costs about 15 bucks.
Contact Bradley Jones on here, he sells a nice spacer/cover for the shaft. I bought one and it works great. I didn't have to remove my heel shifter, it fell off on its own. Can't see how the thing can fall off with the bolt still tight. Isn't the grove in the shaft suppose to hold it on? Ride safe and often
