I don't like the way they limit the room on the footboard. I took mine off because I think they look better without them.

Rode my '08 Ultra a couple of months with, then took it off. I'll never put it back on again. Love the extra room. Anything you can do to gain even an extra inch is worth doing. I tend to move around a lot when riding 400-500 miles a day, and I assume a lot of positions while on the road, moving legs, butt, hips, etc... this way and that to stretch a little and uncramp. HD makes a very good looking cover to cover the shaft splines.

Ordered floorboard extension kit from Soos above for my 09 and put Softbrake extended shift levers. You can also try Walter's extended 2.5" levers: http://www.customchrome.com/dcm/cc/view.asp?420ww.html

Took my heel shifter off this weekend. I like it much better without. Too many years of riding dirt bikes to get used to the heel shifter I guess.

I really like my heel shifter! When I first started riding with one it seemed awkward but I gave it some time and I don't think I could ride without it. Like the way my boot looks without the shifter marks on it.

I rode bikes for YEARS without a heel shifter, including my recently departed Wide Glide. When I got the Ultra, my first inclination was to take the heel shifter off immediately. I'm glad I decided to give it a try before I got rid of it. I love it now, and I have size 13 boots, too!

I wear size 13s and have never had the problem.
