I have some very sad news today. Took my 2K RK in at 40K to have the tensioners replaced. I figured at 40K, check and while they were at it, go ahead and fix. The tensioners were in better shape than the CAMS. I have to have new ones. Thing is Harley knew the 99 and 2000 cams and bearings were crap and say we need to buy the extended warranty to fix THEIR screw ups. My rep is making the call to HD because they agree. (probably won't do any good) Harley fixed the cam issues in 01 but figure me having the extended warranty will help me and my wife when we are broke down in the Ozarks on THEIR TOURING bike good for maybe 40K miles (if you're lucky) I'm pretty POed right now and it's gonna cost me about 7 or 8 hundred bucks (just to fix THEIR problem)... Today I'm wondering what other brand of Scoot do they make that I am willing to ride and I'm also wondering what kind of idiot I am.

Thanks for keeping us in the loop. I'm very interested. I've got 23k on my Road King, which is when the tensioners are supposed to be going out.
Wow, that's pretty pricey! What is that including? I would just go ahead and order a set of SE 203 or SE 211 cams (if they won't take care of the issue for you), and take your bike to a different (indy) dealer for cheaper, or do it yourself!

Upon further investigation, the minor metal damage to my cams was deposited onto my oil pump and scared the surface of the oil pump. New cams, bearnings, oil pump, tensioners (still not going to gears) and lifters. I fully trust the mech and am sure it will be better than new but I'm still POed at Harley because they KNEW this was a problem.
Chiz,
So what was the final verdict? Bad bearings? poor quality cam metal? I take it the tensioners weren't at fault? Hope you get er back on the road soon.
When it comes to loyality, HD riders are loyal to HD. When it comes to loyality, HD is not loyal to it's customers . The metric market keeps making gains because they customers. Yamaha Venture touring bike, for example, has five year warranty. Has HD ever heard of a recall? Honda rewelds all the frames on the Wing on the recall. CHIZ53 and many others are big time losers due to HD workmanship and materials, not because they did not have a warranty.
