10,000 mile service and the dealer said the 2" Baffles were making my bike run dangerously lean. The plugs were snow white. I had the Rush 2" Slip-ons installed when I bought the bike new back in May from another dealer. The dealer I bought the bike from said that they have had only a couple of bikes come back pinging. My bike never pinged...
The dealer that services my bike because they are much closer to my house insisted that I put the 1.5" baffles in so the bike wouldn't run so lean. At the time I bought the bike I also had the SE AC and Stage I download done. The bike did have a lot of decil popping now it doesn't have any decil popping at all.
The sound now sucks, it lost the deep throat sound and sounds like a jack hammer now. I don't want to add a fuel management system and dyno and you know, more money, ect...
Tired of spending money on my bike for now, what should I do?
One dealer says the 2" Rush Slip-ons are fine without additional mods but I have checked with three other dealers and they say the opposite.
If you loose the SE AC and go back to your stock AC you should be able to run any slipon you desire. I'm trying it now out of necessity for the time being after my fuel manager died or I killed it. I'll be checking the plugs after a few more miles. You can see the rest of my story in my thread ........No Fire to the Rear Cylinder...HELP Again
Hmmmm....I agree with SG1. I'm no mechanic but maybe that download is not working like it should. I know you're tired of spending money but dude, we own Harleys and spending money on the bikes comes with the territory! Granted my bike is an '05 but maybe a different fuel management system (Fuel Pak, etc.) for another $250-300.00 might solve the problem. My bike runs cool and performs excellent with Rush 2" with the Fuel Pak. I checked the plugs after swapping the Python pipes out and doing 5K on the Rush and they looked fine (though I change them every 5K anyway). The Fuel Pak program seems to be right-on for these pipes.
If you want to save $$$, put it back to stock with just the pipes on and see how it runs. I put Rush 2-1/4" on my GF's Nightster initially without a high-flow A/C or fuel management and it ran fine (granted, different motor...) but added a fuel pak and SE A/C and that bike ROCKS now!
My understanding is that the air filter would cause the lean condition more than the slip ons. I have the 1.75 on my 06 now to stop a decel pop problem that I had with the 2.25, when I first put them on they were too quiet for my taste, but after several thousand mile the packing burnt out some and they sound just right now. I have the 2.5 in my 89, I like the Rush slip ons.
plugs look fine, no decell pop, but had it dyno tuned and that improved my HP and Torque. I would definatly ask Rush their opinion since you seem to keep fishing for an answer that you want to hear...sort of like if dad said no ask mom....
You answered your own question... DEALER DOWNLOAD... They are required to adjust you PUTT within EPA Limits and that is still LEAN & Lean means HEAT...
Get yourself a SERT - PCIII - V&H FuelPak - that will fix your LEAN CONDITION ...
