I've been looking at touring bikes lately and may have run across a deal. A girl I have been dating has a brother with a 95 with 80,000 miles, totally rebuilt engine, lots of new chrome, tour pack, new tires, new carbs, cams, oil pump, basically everything new in the motor. He bought the bike for $9k about six months ago but has since fallen on hard times and really needs to sell the bike, will take just over $6k.
I have seen pix of the bike and have talked to another brother, who is local and has ridden the bike, but I have not rode the bike.
Am I crazy for taking a chance on a bike with that many miles, unseen?
I was looking at a 2006 FLHT locally (bone stock) with 2k miles for $14.5k from a dealer and could trade my 2005 Dyna Super Glide Custom for about $10k or so (haven't had them appraise mine yet) and would be financing $3-4K.
So, either I keep my Dyna and buy the '95 or trade the Dyna to get the '06 EG.
Which do you think is the better deal and why? Thanks in advance.
I agree with Johnny. I recently had a similar decision to make, an older bagger and keep the fatboy or a newer bagger and sell the fatboy. I took the second route and I miss the fatboy.
That being said you'll miss not having the radio and the tourpak if you go with the newer bagger. I bought a FLHTC just for the fact that I can remove the tourpak and get the Streetglide look but still have the trunk for the long trips.
If you don't want it let me know. That is not a bad deal as I just traded a 01 Untra for my 07 RG and the dealer gave me $10 grand in trade. My 01 had just over 90,000 miles?
i guess im a party killer! my .02 is save the 3 or 4 k then off your dyna. winter is coming and the deals will be everywhere!. cash is king and you will be much happier with a paid for scoot
Thanks for all the replies! Seems my decision might have been made for me. My GM at work today hinted that we may be closing for a couple of months. If that does happen I don't need any kind of payment.
My job really cranks back up in Feb. and there will be deals aplenty at that time of year so I guess for now I'll keep the Dyna and maybe just add a few goodies to make it more distance friendly.
