I've noticed that since I installed my Thunderheaders on my EG Standard, the vibration has gone up. So much that between 2000-2500 rpm, it occasionally causes my MP3 cd's to skip! No problems at all once I get out of that range (I most cruise at 75-80mph, so in the 3000+rpm range).
Anybody else noticed this with aftermarket (or even stock) CD players? Any suggestions to fix this? I've already opened up the fairing to try to see if there was anything I could do (had to tighten some things up due to more fairing vibration as well).
Crypto - I had a similar problem. I could really feel it when I rode w/my feet on the hwy pegs.
It has to do with pipe alignment. There are a couple places to check.
1) look for clearence between the front head pipe and the brake pedal.
2) look for clearence between the front head pipe and the right floorboard.
This took care of 75% of it, but until I loosened-up and re-centered the rear hanger it never would quite ride smooth.
Be sure to take into consideration how much engine shake you have when checking clearence of the brake & floorboard.
I've never had this issue with any other pipe & I've never even heard anyone else mention it. But, I know exactly what you're talking about! Mine is fine now.
That's an odd problem to be having on MP3 CDs. Most players do quite a bit of buffering these days, usually 30 - 40 seconds. You may have an issue with the player itself.
Sure enough, the front floorboard is touching the front heat pipe (dammit!) Now I need more time to play with it and see how I can move that around the best (ugh, means taking it partially apart again!) Funny thing is, I never noticed the vibration until you said something!
jjsanta, I thought it might have been the case too possibly, and considering taking the deck back, but it's literally only in the 2000-2500 rpm range, and it's very inconsistent. Plus, the whole fairing does vibrate more in that range too (and once the tach hits about 2800 and higher, it doesn't skip at all). I would think if there was a problem with the player then it would be worse at the higher rpms.

I gotta admit, that's pretty weird! But at least it cancelled out! Maybe I should've done that instead!
Still trying to figure out how to fix this. I need to wait for the weekend, I don't have the patience after work to deal with crap like this!
When I installed my TH(both of them....LOL), I put everything together loosely. Once I had the entire exhaust hung, I started at the heads and started tightening things down. I think the biggest point to look at is the bracket under the trans. cover. That is the biggest stress point for this system. Once you tighten the nuts at the head, the system will self-align itself. Then go ahead and tighten the clamp on the bottom, then push on the muffler to where you want it and tighten that clamp. I used a 2x4 and a mallet to get the muffler on far enough for my likes......about even with the rear bumper. I have no clearance issues at all, no rubbing of the floorboard, and no rubbing out back either.
My bike doesn't vibrate at all with the TH, PCIII, and Big Sucker...........it used to vibrate more with the stock head pipes and wild pigs.
A guy I work with who rides a V-max even commented on how little vibration I have in my bike. We were warming up the bikes side-by-side and he immediately noticed.
