I have been thinking of doing the 6 speed conversion on my ultra. Has anyone had experience with this and how it effects take off and fuel milage. I have the 37 cams already and would like to get the highway cruising rpm down some. 3000 @ 70, I have read where you can take the 6 speed out of the softtail case and put it in the twin cam case. True or false. The down fall to this is demon cycles is the one that advertises this. Great concept if not for that. Or would I be better to spend the money on big bore kit. I am doing some head work this winter, just polishing mainly. sorry for so many questions. getting my projects ready for this winter while funds are here.

I think there are some differences in the cluster.
Baker doesn't sell a cluster that fits both Softtail & Tourers...different part numbers.
Revtech has the cluster on there site that fits both softtail and touring. I can't swing the baker. No more hd fund left if I go that way. Great tranny though.
You know it's kinda funny. For years with my old Harley's when the Baker 6 speed came around hot I always said, dang Harley needs a 6 speed. Now that I have that 6 speed in my '08 Harley I fine that I rarely use it. It is cool to have but I'd say that unless you do a TON of 70MPH+ driving save your money for somethin' else.
+1 for the 6 speed. My 02 Ultra was fine up to 70 for rpm and such, but I get 78 out of the 07 at the same rpm. Out here in the desert southwest, with our long distances, the sixth gear is very much appreciated.
I use the S/E 6 spd. in my 2000 RG and am pleased with the way it performs. It does'nt make much difference in mileage during times of mixed riding but it does make a slight improvement in mileage on the highway. The most noteable change is in a more relaxed feeling ride imho.
I went from a 06 UC with 5 speed to 09 UC with six speed. I would not be without it. I do 80 at 3,000 RPM. Can cruise at 90 all day long. I love the 6th gear. I have read that guys have to downshift on hills. I do not have that problem. Pulls very well in 6th gear. Has to be helping on MPG.
