Default 12v Heated Jackets

My wife and I are thinking of buying two of the HD heated jackets with our chrome cash. I have read mixed reviews on these items. Just wanted to get your guy's take on them. We just think they would be great for those days when it starts out in the 40-60 degree range.

40-60? I wish that's as cold as it gets here. I have had mine for 5 years and still works great. I have been out in the 30s with mine. Even got caught in a little snow once.

I have the HD heated jacket liner and gloves and love them. I've worn them down to the teens with no problems.

I had a Gerbings jacket for years, till it shrunk(?) Was gonna replace it with another one. If you don't do a lotta touring then the new ones are OK. Only down side is they added insulation and bulk to them that would make it harder to pack away or even ride with if it starts out cool and gets warm. I got the Warm-n-Safe with the dual controller. Its nice and thin. No problem packing away for a long trip or wearing under your leather jacket all day in the fall or spring.

Well I figured out my heated jacket and gloves.

I had called Gerbings and got nowhere, the girl on the other end of the phone thought I had a degree in stupidity. All I wanted was a wiring diagram for the jacket.

My jacket had five leads, three by the left hip and one at the end of each sleeve.

Here is what I found out with my ohm meter. The connector that is labeled gloves, insert it into the battery harness. This will provide power to the connectors at the end of your sleeves and to the accessory plug. Second, insert the jacket connector not labeled into the accessories connector, this will provide power to the jacket.

This is a simple solution to when Gerbings says that you need to buy a splitter to use both the jacket and gloves at the same time.

PS... I love riding in the cooler weather of Nebraska now, I still need a good Balaclava though.

The Gerbing jackets have zippers on the sleeve for the cord that goes for the heated gloves to plug into, verses HD not. The 3 plug ins on the inside is for the duel controller. The white one is for gloves from controller and the middle one is for the jacket/ pants feed from controller and the other one is for the pants to plug into. First your jackets should have came with a battery connector in the inside pocket. The duel controller will need to be ordered seperately. Forget the little pouch to hold the controller. Just stick it in your pocket and adjust if needed once set. The jacket and controller will store in a gallon ziplock bag for the cool evening ride when you're away from home to late.
