Talking Dream Engine Build for Bagger

Okay, how about some fun. I'd like to upgrade my engine to something that is completely reliable and has incredible torque, not a racket making valve train, and consistent with reasonable gas mileage. My current build is a 107 Axtell/Baisely/Woods putting out about 94 HP and 100 torque... Do I use HQ or do I use or Axtell or something else? Oh yes, I really don't want to change the pipes (Bub7's TD with Crossover); and I hae a SERT... so how about dreaming and suggesting a build... and if you can a ball park price and why....

Best,
J

something wrong with your build cause 95" kits get atleast 105tq..... you should be getting 120tq.... i know a few 103 all se parts builds getting almost 120tq... what heads are you using??.. seen a few swap out to r&r heads and do alot better.. and also what cam and compression are you running????? you tuner might of took some timing out and that would of killed some power also...

now if you want a monster the 120 HQ Builds make 150+ on the Tq and about 144/145 Hp and are very reliable and streetable....

I only have 40K on the build and about 8K on the cams but if I have to do it over I would only drop on some 110 cylinders and have the heads worked a little and get them cc matched. Get the compression up just a little and get rid of the 4* gear. When I changed the cams my goal was 90 ftld @2500 and I got real close. 91@ 2600. I never twist the motor over 5300 so HP is a mute number. The biggest improvement was the Tmax. I'm surprised why you only have 100 ftld torque?

Do a 110" and have Darkhorse rework the crank.

Would I really have to give up my 107 to go to a 110, please can I keep it...

Who is Darkhorse and what do you think it would take to go to a 110, and of course the q is what might I gain in torque?

Thanks,
J

Darkhorse balance's & trues cranks...it does make a huge difference in how much shake your motor makes, power too.....IMO....i'd run a set of R&R cast heads with 117 to 124 cubic inches....i currently run a woods 9b and its quiet....however the HQ 120 with their heads is a real reliable hotrod motor....price, 7k or so

Which Woods cams are you currently using? What is the CCP of the current build? What mpg are you getting now? I'm not a dyno numbers guy; would be more interested to see the dyno chart to see the shape of the torque line. Also, the quality of the build is heavily dependent on the quality of the tune--if your mpg isn't at least 40+ mpg highway, I'd look at getting a better tune 'cause the numbers you posted are on the low end of "normal" IMO.

As for me, when it comes time to do a build, I'll do an HQ Sport Touring 113" kit--HD 4.060 cylinders at 4.065", stock heads ported by HQ, HQ reverse dish pistons, 10.5:1 CR, HQ 575 cams, HQ Black Ops lifters, 4 3/8" crank that's been "darkhorsed," SE 50 mm TB with 4.89 injectors, etc. and keep my Rinehart TD's. Should be good for about 115-120 hp and 130 ft. lbs tq. It's basically the same build as the HQ 120 without the 4 5/8" crank that yields about 150 ft. lbs tq. that Dalton, PhilM, and Hotpursuit run--powerful, reliable, and 40+ mpg.
