To those who do not have the HD opener, The HD opener senses the toggling of the headlight high to low or low to high. I don't have the HID but it would seem that it shouldn't make a difference in the operation of the opener. You would just need to make sure the opener was connected before the HID electronics. But without a wiring diagram of how the HID is hooked up I can't be positive.
BTW the HD opener is probably my favorite mod no taking a hand off to push a button just toggle the headlight. And the range is much longer than the remotes that came with the door opener.
Sure wish I would have thought of an opened like yours before i put $1.5 million into my open over the last 30 years. But i will say though she's never failed to open, or close the door when i need it done.
I had the HID and HD Garage Door Opener on my 05 UC and it worked fine. Maybe you did not follow the installation? Just guessing. I put the HD Garage Door Open on shortly after buying my 05 UC, six moths later I installed the HID. Bright Light Switch worked just fine. I think I can dig out the wiring. The Bright light is separate and not HID. I must be missing something. If both are MOCO's and not some after market it should be fine. I especially like the relay that killed power to the HID when starting.

Wondering if anyone has any experiance with this and has come up with an alertative hook up for the HD devices to get around this issue?
Yep i saw you solution and if I can't finger it out I may have to go that route like the looks of it, however hate to spend the 79 if i can make my current investment of 129 work again.

Oh but it does make a difference. Yes, it was installed on my bike BEFORE we added the HID. Once the HID was added, garage door no workie-workie. Removed the HID and plugged in OEM lights and garage door worked. Unplugged OEM lights and HID back in, no workie. The diode that flips the mirror on the HID lamps stops the electric pulse from getting to the transmitter
Out of curiosity, what's involved in the installation of the HD opener (transmitter) to the bike? Is it plug/play or do you have to disassemble/solder anything? I tried to google the instructions, but no luck.
My current Sears remote is about worn out (and a damned near dropped my bike last week digging for it in the glove box).
I've read up on the DiY mods, but was curious about the one HD sells. Plug/play is a big plus for me (I usually set fire to things I try to solder).

Could you change the wiring around so the current goes to the transmitter before the diode?
i recently posted a similar post about my HID light and garage door opener. i bought the HID kit from a forum sponser and had a craftsman garage door opener mounted under the fairing and wired to a button that i mounted in the clutch housing. the opener was NOT wired in the wiring harness and then the door opener quit working...burnt the remote out, actually two of them so far. found out through some research that the ballast of the HID emits an RF signal that can interfer and eventually damage the transmitter in the remote. the thing i ended up doing was wrapping the ballast in aluminum foil (it will block RF signal). haven't had a problem since. work for me and its cheap, at least worth a try. also, try and mount the ballast to something plastic, mounting to metal magnifies the signal and was messing with my radio reception. hope this helps.
