Default TBW Grip Change

Still waiting for my shop manual (3 weeks now). In the mean time I want to install new grips and possibably new bars on my 08 RK, should be one of the easiest jobs (and was with earier models) to do on a Harley, but reading many threads about damaging the TBW sensor, I'm a little learing of tearing into it without knowing what's there. Can anyone who has done this or anyone with a shop manual give me the instructions or tips I need to do this without damaging the sensor.
Thanks.

Damaging the module isn't a problem, just don't get rough with it. There's a connector inside the handlebars. You get at it by back feeding wire from the harness in the fairing, & gently pulling the module out of the end of the handlebar. Then the module simply unplugs. The issue we ran into on the friends '08 that we did was the grips. The module has a toothed end that matches the grip, & at the time we did his there weren't any aftermarket grips with the notching available. You'll probably have more choice now.

Never changed bars but I added Kury Iso grips to my 08 Ultra. It was easy just follow the directions. The TBW housing comes apart with torx screws and the grip comes out when you separate the housing halves. The new grip has the TBW gears within in. Make sure you have the to 08 model (for TBW) of new grips. Its really not a big deal. The other side I had to cut off the old grip. The new one glues on. The iso grips are very comfortable versus the stock rubber grips. Good luck.

Sniper, just posted a new thread before I read your post here, great sounds like this is an easy install but do you believe the Kury stock no. 6228 will also fit the 09's. The kury website does not state it will but I don't see why it won't as nothing has changed on TBW for 09.

Grip change very easy. Bar change is easy, but time consuming.

Thanks.
The new TBW grips are very easy to install. HD grips come with detailed instructions. There is no glue used on the left grip for 2008 models, and none is needed.

Heres a pic of the green connector in the Twist Grip Sensor wiring. If it's damaged the entire TGS will have to be replaced. The replacement TGS PN 32310-08 has no green connector and is gives you more room for running internal wiring.

I recently installed a set of Khrome Werks 300515 +2 Wide Sweeper bars on my 2008 Street Glide and ran the wire internally. Here a write-up on the process, along with these pics.
