Default Power Commander vs SERT

I removed my PCIII a few months ago in favor of a SERT/dyno tune. I couldn't be happier. My bike ran great with the PCIII but I don't think I"ll be using it in the future. If anyone is interested, you can see my listing in the classified section.

Did you have your bike dyno tuned when you ran the PC3? What brought about the change?

Default SERT v. PCIII

Yes, please tell us more. I too have a PCIII and have been considering a SERT. What did bring the change and did you see any change in your HP/TQ numbers? Thanks a bunch.

Here's the story . . .

My bike was running well with the PC but I just had a feeling that it could run better. I had a feeling that the AFR was still lean with the map I was running. I was getting some popping occasionally. I went into the map and changed some numbers in the low columns and it helped but didn't cure it.

I then decided to get a dyno tune at Latus Motors in Portland. They have a great dyno shop. Talking with them, they said they could do the tune with the PC or they could do one with a SERT. It was up to me. I went looking on Ebay and found a SERT for $260 and then had the dyno done for another $400.

I had them do a before and after dyno sheet showing the PC numbers and the SERT numbers. Here they are:

PCIII - max torque - 88.42 Max power - 72.92
SERT - max torque - 90.16 Max power - 74.41

Not too much of a change I admit. However, I was right about the AFR:

PCIII - 14 to 15
SERT - 13 to 13.5

I am very happy with the way the bike runs now. I'm sure I would have been happy with the PCIII dyno tune after they tweaked it and lowered the AFR. I would have saved $260 that way. I just felt better about having the O2 sensors hooked up. I also didn't like the way the PCIII was patched into the system and held on by wire ties and stuffed under the side cover.

That's my story and I'm stick'n to it.

PS - The PCIII is still for sale. Now at $180 plus shipping.

This has been my thing all along with the PCIII, I think the new PCV corrects the 02 sensor thing, but it still stays on the bike. Thanks for sharing

I'm happy you're happy. That's a very expensive 1.5hp.

Just to clarify, the numbers you posted were a PC3 w/canned map versus a dyno tuned SERT. Correct?

I understand the decel popping is a common issue with the PC3. Mine was cured by adding 20% to the zero throttle column at rpm > 2000.

Please forgive my ignorance. What is a SERT, and will it have a positive effect on my stock system, which, is overly white on the rear plug?

SERT= Screaming Eagle Race Tuner, a HD product which allows for very fine tuning of the EFI system. If your plugs are white then you're running too lean. SERT is one option to correct the situation.
