I replaced it the first week I had my bike. I bough the HD Chrome shifter linkage assembly and it looks Great! What I cant figure out is why so many guys look to do this "on the cheap" (which works fine) when we all spend so much money to "chrome up" our rides anyway? Why not just get the entire assemble from HD in chrome and consider it a dress up item. Anyway, I took the stock rod off and wrapped it up and stored it in my saddlebag in case I run into someone broken down on the road who needs one.

The set up in the photo I post allows full movement. the emergency, just in case the link fails while you are riding. this happen to a chapter member he rides an 06 Ultra Classic. Yes the stock design is poor. I thought I would share the process I took. those parts are used on racing carts so they have to have movement and easy enough to lubricate after a wash.

I recently replace the rod ends with Heim Joints purchased from eBay for $3.25 each. A couple of 5/16-24 bolts and a nylon lock nut for the front joint and your done.

IK took the plunge and bought the HD billet linkage. You only live once, so why not? Just as long as the wife does not find out that the part cost about $120.00. If she does, these goes the one live clause.
