Default Hope I'm Wrong

I bottomed up my outer fairing a few days ago. Now I want to remove my fairing cap to change fork oil.

I read in the SM that the outer fairing has to be removed, radio shifted and a wire strap cut to allow the cap to come off...

Is this correct?????

Last winter I tore mine ( 07 Ultra ) down to paint inner fairing. I had outer, inner and fairing cap off and never moved radio. I beleive you can just remove your lower cap. It's worth a try, if not then you'll have to remove more.

Don't know about an 09, but not necessary on an 06.

Just found another fairing cap removal page in the SM and it does not say anything about the outer fairing. Remove ignition switch, remove the 2 side screws, lift up cap and unplug connector. I feel better now.....

You are correct. All that has to be removed is the ignition switch **** and the fairing cap. I recently changed the folk oil on my 08 SG and added the HD SE Performance Fork Oil "Heavy". I would suggest reading through this thread before doing the job. You will find some good tips and tools needed.

the fork tube plugs are 36mm and in a very tight spot to get to if you have the harly
tool kit with the flat 36mm box end wrench that is the tool to use fits in the tight spot
