Default Open Speaker Error??

I just got an '06 SG a couple of weeks ago switching over from a Heritage. One of the nicest things about the SG was better wind protection and stereo sound since I ride almost 200 miles everyday back and forth to work. I was coming home night before last and the sound just quit without any warning. I fired up the stereo in diagnostic mode and it's showing an error "B-2017 Open Speaker Error FL". I was just wondering what the hell is an open speaker? I checked for shorts tracing wires but couldn't find anything. Any suggestions aside from plunking down another $500 to change out the stereo. I am still trying to lay low while the OL calms down from the surprise purchase of 2 weeks ago. Sure wouldn't want to rile her up again now.
Thanks

that codes not for shorts, that's for an open (broken wire or connection)

did you try swapping the speakers?

I pulled the fairing before leaving for work and pulled and checked wires, plugged the stereo back in and the sound was working. I shut it down, put the fairing back on and nothing again. I tried the same thing for lunch but no luck. I will try different speakers tonight, thanks.

I upgraded the software to 8.9 and when I start up the stereo in diagnostic or setup mode, by pressing 2 softkeys while powering up, the code comes up as B2017 Open Speaker Error FL.

There is a short paper I wrote on how to do the software checks, and updates at http://www.hogtunes.com/tech.html

I can probably help with the open speaker deal if you give me a call when your near your bike--happy to help if I can eh

Really appreciate the offer. I just might take you up on that whenever you have the time. I went ahead and tried a friend's speakers to eliminate those as being the problem, and unfortunately they weren't the problem which means I am back to square one.

Go figure...I just hopped on the bike to run across the street and guess what, SOUND. It hasn't worked for 3 days at all, and now it works sometimes, gotta love it.
