When doing a detailed cleaning 2 or 3 times a year, I remove seat, side covers, and saddlebags. Wash everything, dry it with a blaster and go get it dirty again. Done this for several Harleys and never had any problems. Just never use that spray cleaner on electrical stuff.
I guess I am ignorant here. Washing the seat is a bad thing? I have never taken off a seat before when washing or even power washing, but this is my first Harley. I did avoid using strong detergent on the seats.
It's not a matter of washing the seat being bad. For me I take it off for two reasons. Dust, dirt and grime build up under the seat. That is more opportunity for scratches. And my seat, as well as alot of the HD seats have perforated areas that allow water to get in. No amount of drying will get rid of that extra moisture. It takes a few days to dry out. Not a good feeling getting up in the morning, hopping on and getting a case of wet ***.
Unless everything under the seat is self cleaning its gonna get real grimy under there....
Take off the seat and clean clean clean......
It's a motorcycle and they even come with instructions on "riding in the rain"

Dayum, I didn't know that you rode your scoot. I thought you just sat and looked at it in the garage.
+1, it is the main reason I take my seat off. I get water seepage thru the seams and I don't care for the wet *** look or feel.
1. Takeoff seat.
2. Pull a plastic garbage over the seat.
3. Tie a knot in the bag.
4. Put seat back on bike.
5. Remove garbage bag after washing bike.
Primo
Do the same thing. When done I remove the seat and use a sponge to clean under the seat and covered areas. I never rinse those areas with a hose.
Wife and I have had 5 RKS. I have never removed the seat for washing the bike. Too much hassle and there is all the elec under there. After I wash, however, the first thing I wipe is the seat. Have never had a problem.
Eric
only clean under the seat if I have to take it off when Im working on it ,Wash it weekly and always get the seat wet ,ever parked your scoot in the rain its going to get wet
