Stock seats are vinyl, water won't hurt them one bit. Leather seats, water will evenually harm them, I always use a seat cover when washing. As far as removing the seat, right or wrong, I'm not getting unnessesary water down among all the electrical. No way! My 2 cents....Rich

That's just GOOFY (and **** retentive).

Why in hell do you care what the underside of the seat looks like? You can't see under there when the seat's on the bike (meaning, you can actually RIDE the damned thing) and neither can anyone else.

Why, oh why, do people get so **** about stuff like this? I don't get it.

Why? Well for the same reason that I clean the underside/frame/back of wheels/engine of my truck - because I'm OCD when it comes to the cleanliness of my vehicles (actually I'm CDO, which is like OCD, but in the correct alphabetical order, like it should be).

Seriously though (yes I do clean those areas on my truck), my MC is brand new and this was my first wash/wax. The main reason for removing the seat was to wash and wax the parts of the gas tank that the seat covers. I will NOT be removing the seat on a regular basis when cleaning it.

What's your problem? Do you not wipe your azz because you can't see it?

I don't wash my bike that often but when I do, I remove the seat and bags and wash the whole damn bike. And the bags and seat separately. I also clean the crud from underneath it. A clean bike is a happy bike.
