I have a new RKC, and will be washing it this weekend. Before I wash it, I want to remove to seat to get both it cleaned as well as everything under it. But when I removed the seat "just to see" the other night, I saw that there was a lot of electrical wires under there. So I thought I'd ask if it is ok to get all that stuff wet or not...
On one hand, I'm thinking it would be ok, since everything should be water-proof on a MC; but on the other hand it's never a good idea to get electrical stuff wet.
I wouldn't drench it with water, but if it gets a little wet it should be ok. Kinda like when I wash the SG, I don't spray the inner fairing but it still gets wet. Also it has sat out in the rain all night on trips with no ill effects.
See that big hole in the seat right behind your ***?? That goes all the way through. Water is still gonna get down there. I myself take the seat off and lay a plastic bag over the battery and ECU and tuck it in on the sides. Gets a little wet but keeps the heavy flow of water off. Quick shot with the bike dryer and all is good.
To each their own. I never bother taking mine off, but know others who insist upon doing that. Needless to say their bikes are always cleaner than mine. Could it be Hmmmmm.....Maybe DINGER!
I have always taken the seat off when washing every Harley that I have owned. Never a problem and I hose the whole thing down.
I do have a problem with my 07 in that the horn gets wet when washing or riding in heavy rain and quits working for a few days until it drys out. I never had this problem on any earlier Harley.
I've never taken my seat off when washing any of my bikes - but I can see where you'd want to - I vote for the plastic bag covering the batter and electricals and hose away! At least that's what I'll do next time.

That is a flatuation port, ie; an alternate fuel idea for future use.. Still working on the link that connects your butt to it...
