I use an I-pod. Never had a problem.
I rigged a cigarette lighter charger under the seat, the cord runs up under the dash panel and comes out of the cover on the handlebar mount. It then runs up inside the conduit that houses the speaker wires and up to the I-pod. Now I never have to remember to recharge the thing.

I have a Sony 4gb mp3 (Walkman), also has a built in fm tuner. Great Sony quality, got it for just under $100. Battery lasts a long time like 33 hours.

I bought a cup holder for my 07 sg & figured it would be a cool place to hold my 80 gig zune. Didn't work too good. Way too much vibration & i caused a lot of skipping & froze up once. Maybe a good mount so it doesn't jiggle around as much would fix it.

I've read a lot of good things about the Zune, but I've never owned one. I have an Ipod and I love it. I keep it in the dash pouch and so far the vibration hasn't hurt anything.

My daughter went from an Ipod to a 4gb Zune last year for christmas. The zune software is not user friendly to figure out. I didn't like how the Ipods software changed the format from MP3 and you had to have the "library" for that Ipod on your computer. Now she is wanting a high capacity "regular" MP3 player. Drag and drop after she rips the CD.
I bought a 2gb Sansa C240, in red, put a small leather pouch on my tank just below the gas cap. So it rides on the console, its real easy to reach down and shuffle songs, rechargeable battery lasts a very long time, or you can use 2aaa's. Simple drag and drop the mp'3 onto it. You might have to install a driver. Small, and cheap $30 bucks on sale. No hard drive, nothing for vibration to get.
I am not concerned with watching videos, or the display while I am riding, only having the MP3's.

I have mounts for Shuffle and 3g and new 4g Nano. Use the iSkins beltclips with them and no problems. iSkins have nice silicone cover incase you get caught in the rain.

Made in USA and licensed by Apple Inc. $29.99 (Black) & $39.99 (Chrome - don't get you home).

I have used an iPod on 2 bikes. I am currently using a 160GB classic. I have rigged up a 12v outlet in my tour pak and ran a 15ft 90 degree 1/8" plug cable from the radio to the tour pak. I just leave the ipod in the tour pak and it runs with no issues with vibration. I have a remote for it called the iJET with plugs in the bottom dock of the iPod and I clip the remote to the windshield bag.
As others have said, vibration can be a problem with harddrive based players. That is why I ended up putting mine in the pak and using a remote to control it. Went through that learning curve pretty quick.

I am on my 3rd iPod. I went from a 30GB, to 60GB to 160GB. I kept filling them up and going to the next bigger size. Choose the one that has the features and accessories available that you will want.
