Neither ! Check out the COWON D2 you can buy direct from them and get there extended warranty. This is one kick butt player that also does movies and a lot of other stuff.
Or www.anythingbutipod.com take your time and read the reviews , also they have a great Forum that you can join and ask tons of questions. FWIW the D2 has 56hours of battery life, comes in different sizes (4gb ~ 16GB) and has a slot should you want to pop in up to another 16gb SD card for even more storage.
Cowon has been a well known company for there high end items. But on the other hand if it just for your bike you could go with the cheap creative Zen V Plus that would work just fine for you, as a matter of fact Napster had a deal going if you bought a 3 mo subscritpion you would get the small Zen V Plus. I think that the subscription cost the same as buying the player.
Places to get good prices on MP3 players, www.newegg.com and www.amazon.com at this time of year you can actually put in a price drop notifaction at Newegg and you may get a real deal. I just did that on a WD Carviar 1tb HD that was selling for $109/wfree delivery and offered $88 plus the free delivery and got it, so it pays to ask.
Happy hunting,
John

I'd appreciate any opinions on either player, positive or otherwise. Problems with the units mounted on a bike? Software problems, warranty?
Got a used 8gb Apple Nano Gen3 recently off ebay for ~$60. My headunit has a docking cable so I mounted mine out of site. As others have said get a solid state memory one with no spinning hard drive for durablility.
iPod shuffle 2 gig (1.2 days of non-stop music, although the battery will not last that long) attached between the speedo/tach on the inner fairing with a piece of velcro and a 1 foot cord snaked around the HK head unit. Don't need a screen to read while driving. Less buttons, less self induced problems while riding...
8g iTouch here. Never had the battery outlast me. Mounts in my shirt pocket . I don't need the blue tooth of the Zumo 550... when I'm riding, the last thing I'm going to think about is a phone .
Resurrecting this one from the deep.
Son had a Zune 30 gig and it was awesome. Someone stole it.
I bought a 120 gig Zune and absolutely love it.
Software is awesome for it. Once you realize that you need to set the settings to Manual Synch, it is really user friendly.
Plus the screen size and quality is hands down a million times better then Ipod.
