Default 2007 Road King Modification Advice Needed

I have a issue that I am hoping some of you can help me resolve.
I purchased my RK new 2 years ago, I was planning on keeping the entire bike stock. In the past, bikes that I have had I made the mistake of trying to chase more horse power through engine, exhaust, and electrical mods, only to suffer in reliability.
Basicly, if I wanted HP I would have purchased a ZX-14, I purchased the Road King because as I learned through the years, for me the fun factor doesn't require me to be the fastest anymore and there are many other things that the King offers to make up for the HP.
However, I have been increasingly dissatisfied with the unbearable heat the engine puts off as well as the poor gas mileage. In doing some research it sounds like the power commander would improve the heat and mileage issue nicely. If I am incorrect your comments are appreciated.
Also I came across a pair of Rush Slip on on ebay that I got for $80, Upon arrival I have determined that they are actually. HD SEII Slip on's (pn 64903-00, containing 2 of 64910-99's) There isn't a whole lot of info available but there is one post with a guy who put these on a 200t RK with no problem. The only reason I bought them in the first place was that I knew I could change the packs and tune the sound to my liking, not to mention a great price. I am really just looking for a throatier sound, not too loud where I cant hear my radio or talk to my passenger. The Rush with the 1.75" seamed to be what I was looking for. I am not sure about these, can anyone give me some advice? If they arent going to fit my requirements I will either get a refund or sell them.
Next, What would be a good air cleaner? what is the best bang for the buck?

Finally, am I giving up reliability with the PC3, SE's/Rush, and air cleaner? Am I going to constantly be hearing backfiring or have issues starting it?

Advice appreciated.

Your heat prob is the style of exhaust. Change the entire exhaust system to a true dual to alleviate some heat.
Most people on this forum like the Ness Big Sucker air cleaner setup. Should be fine for no more than you're doing.
The PCIII is a good tuner, and if tuned right, you'll hear no backfiring.
Finally, Kuryakn makes some nice under the tank heat shield that actually work. They're plastic.
Also, there's a forum sponsor, No More Fried Thighs, that makes a really nice leather, under the tank heat shield.

im on an 07 also lets start with the heat synthetic oil oil cooler W/thermostat and definetly rj original heat sheilds will help alot. the 07 are really lean stock i wouldnt recomend any exhaust mods without some kind of tuner.and will NOT do intake mods without tuner.then theres the great tuner debate theres already a lot of endless threads on that. my plan is to keep running ied with stock pipes and air cleaner untill warrenty is up then go with 2-1 k&n and pc111.

I already have the "no more fried thigh's" Heat shields and I run full synthetic. They help but there is still a lot of heat.

What would you do about the Pipes?

You will not be giving up reliability with a stage one setup. I used RushMoto due to all the positive postings and am very happy with the results. The heat issue is no more, it sounds the way I like it and has all the power that I need.

I don't know about the pipes you bought, however if they work for you, all you have to do is get the PCIII and RushMoto air cleaner setup and you should be very happy. I also put an IDS on which also made a difference for me. Overall this is about the best HD that I have owned, except for the 1982 FLH that I had. Either that or I was sooo young that it did not bother me during those years. :P

A pipe like the V&H Big Shot True Duals...would get the heat away from you.

Also, a good tune will help a bit. You're bike was setup lean from the factory, for EPA purposes. Lean = heat.

pipes are such a personal thing if u really hate the heat true duals. 2-1 should also help with heat (thats prety much what harley did to the 09) and 2-1 give better tourge curve and less wieght. or on a budget fuel moto packege pc11 will take care of a lot of the heat and slip ons are way more affodable there jackpot mufflers have a smaller baffle in the left side so they give you a tourqe curve simmalar to 2-1.
