I'm looking for a handlebar mounted GPS that offers XM radio. I see the popular Zumo 550 has it as well as the HD Road Tech. Both steep in price but it looks like I would need to spend another $250 for an XM anetnna.
Are these interchangable between bike and car?
So if I went with a Zumo 550, where can I get the best price?
For the 550 check pcnation.com for their price, they're usually pretty low. I got my 550 from them in May of '07 for less than $600. Also, if you don't need the bluetooth some guys have been getting the 450 at Costco for something like $450.
The 550 comes with a nice handlebar mount, but if you want to try others check out RAM mounts. They make great stuff.
I have the Zumo on my RKC and use earbuds connected to a Sony Bluetooth receiver to hear the voice prompts and MP3 music files. I've been thinking of getting the XM radio receiver this winter and it should work the same way. I've used the Zumo in a car, but again I don't have the XM radio yet so I don't know if it would work as well in a car but I suspect it would. Look up Zumo Forums, they ought to be able to answer your question.
To keep the handlebars clean and be able to remove the GPS easily I went with a Powerlet Plus outlet on the bars and Ram mounts.
Works great. Here's a shot of the mount set up; http://i324.photobucket.com/albums/k...O/DSC01373.jpg
