Oil changes are easy and fun. Get a new set of 0-ring gaskets for the drain plugs before you do it is all. Plenty of discussion here on what oils to use and all that. Choose what you like and get an oil filter and you're in business. Saves you lots of money and not hard to do.
so easy just take your time.invest in the service manual you will use so much more then you thought, every thing is in it.safe money and done right in the long run
I was at my HD shop last Saturday and the question came up about providing your own service. The real question was, how do you prove that the oil and filter you bought went into your Harley? I guess it comes down to a matter of trust. But if HD has to cover a warranty issue which could be traced back to a service problem, I wonder if the trust will be there? Anyway, the shop I use, Mathew's HD of Fresno, CA charges $180 () for every service, whether 1,000 miles or 10,000 miles. Unless you use synthetic which is a little more.
I am really having second thoughts about having HD doing my 5000mi. service. I want to know from those who are like me, first time Harley owner and first timer working on a Harley or bike period. What services are extremely recommended? I had my 1000mi and 2500mi service done by them already.
Get a manual if you don't have one already, take your time and check what your doing BEFORE you do it.
Not hard at all and you'll feel good after your done.
