The dude in that video is about to have a heart attack! Did you hear him huffing and puffing? Man, if i ever get to the point that i'm struggling to roll on a chair or twist a wrench I hope someone gives me some straight talk about weight control exercise. Some expert he is, he let the oil from the filter run all over that bike! Hey ExpertVillage, we have lots of post on here with the correct way to change oil, you should check them out.

Buy the book, tools and parts and do it yourself. I paid for the 1, 5 and 10k before I wised up. About $1200 for those 1st 3 oil changes. Just did my 20k and spent about $100 in parts and thats using syn 3 oil and the high dollar plugs.

That 20k service at HD was $454 plus tax so I saved $350 or so.

Okay, not gonna lie. I spent the $350 saved on other HD stuff I didn't need.

And how do I know they (HD) did the service correctly? Or if they did it at all.
I'd rather do it myself, keep records and receipts. At least I know it's done correctly.

If I knew how to upload Excel file, I would share the Maintenance Schedule that I have. Maybe someone else has it. It was posted on here a while back. Really nice for recording your work.

Organize your records. Buy a 8 1/2 x 11 spiral notebook and use it to log all your repairs and services and scotch tape in your receipts and repair invoices on the pages. Go through and number all the pages. Keep it in chronological order with dates and mileage.

Add in notes about your trips, or performance issues, questions to remind yourself to ask the dealer or the forum, etc. You can even take pictures, print them out and tape them in. Paste the maintenance schedule inside the front cover.

It will be a nice record to have to remind you of what you did to the bike and it also documents your maintenance. Since it is a continuous record, probably with an intermix of dealer invoices showing mileage and dates with your own dated entries, it will back up your credibility if you ever have to "get legal" with someone over what service was done.

Here's the file that Ianswutiams is talking about.
After uploading it change the file extender "txt" to "xls", the file should be renamed to "MaintSched.xls". After that is done you will be able to open it with Excel.

MaintSched.zip unzip this file to get MaintSched.txt then rename to MaintSched.xls

With a service manual, there's no reason you can't do the 5K service yourself.
