I have a 08 Ultra, 2000 miles on it. Bought it new. At 1000 miles I put on a PCIII, Arlen Ness Big Suker, and Monster Ovals. The PCIII map is from FuelMoto for my bike's set-up.
So, what I am concerned about is the bike's MPG. I get a CONSISTANT 32-33 mpg no matter how I ride. From looking at the MPG thread on this forum EVERYONE with my bike gets WELL BETTER gas mileage than me, even with comparable set-ups. I had a V-rod before and that gas guzzler would get the same or BETTER mileage than my Ultra!
Sometimes when I turn on the bike (to prime it for starting) the fuel pump primer keeps running instead of the normal 1-2 second primer. I shut the bike off, turn it back on, and that usually fixes the problem. After I start the bike though, I hear a loud whine as if the primer has turned back on again...some have said this is the normal sound that the fuel pump makes with the bike started. I get ALOT of black soot on the ends of my pipes (again this could be normal, I never noticed with my V-rod because the pipes were black, not chrome). And lastly, my bike ALWAYS stinks of gasoline after a ride, yet I can find NO LEAKS. I have not had the bike Dyno'd yet because of all the favorable recommendations on this site about FuelMoto's maps. The stealership says that MPG is not covered under warranty, so they say the only way to fix my problem is to have it dyno'd.
MPG is definintely not going to be covered under warranty (especially after you change the fuel management system, change pipes, and change air intake).
You might contact Jamie at Fuelmoto and see what he recommends.
Doesn't sound right. May be running way to rich may just need to adjust the pcIII or its rare but does happen now and then just get a bad pcIII or the map gets lost or corrupted. Get with Jamie at fuel moto he can tell you wat to do.
Give Jamie a call and ask him to give you a map with better mileage. What I feel, and it's just MY .02 is that when people talk to Jamie they don't explain that they want a cooler running, not a race tune. Just explain to him you want a little extra mileage. He'll work with ya.
Believe it or not, I get about 2-3 mpg when I'm running threw the hills at over 3000 rpm's in 4th and 5th than cruising on the highways at 2500 rpm's in 6th.
don't know what you wre gettin before the pc111,but a significant drop in mpg would suggest the map is off.as others have said call jamie he's good at what he does
I was getting about the same MPG before the PCIII, the best I got was 35. However, I only had 1000 miles on the bike and she was not quite broke in....I'll contact Jamie tomorrow and see what he thinks. I will update with progress.
Did you set your throttle closed (most important) and wide open points?
If you didn't it'll probably make a big difference in the way it runs.
Mine lost a lot of mileage too. The whole idea behind these systems is to add more fuel, add to that opening up the intake and exhaust to become free breathing, and you get what they're designed for. Don't be surprised if you never get close to the original mileage. But, getting it dyno'ed by a competent tuner will get you closer.
Your mileage is too low to be "normal." As for the PCIII, talk to Jamie. As for how rich the bike is now running, pull the plugs--they'll probably be black from being rich. You should also pull the oil dipstick and smell it--if you can smell gas it's extremely rich to the point you may be doing serious engine damage by washing the cylinders with unburned gasoline and impairing the lubricating quality of the oil by contaminating the oil.
PEZ' suggestion about the fuel pump issue is a good one--that would need to be checked out.
