I went from a 06 Heritage to a 09 Street Glide and it took a little while to get used to the lean angle of the kickstand.

 

Yep, called HD Customer Service, they said they would call my dealer and have the bracket changed out. Dealer called me several minutes later, said that HD had just called them and when the new bracket comes in, they will call me.

Of course I never said anything about learning about it on a forum.....HD and probably all other manufacturers think forums are run by satin!!!!

 

I had the newer kickstand installed for my 2009. The reason there are a lot of 09 bikes out there with kickstands that make them lean over too much is because of the 09 bikes had larger wheels on them than the 08 bikes had. They started manufacturing 09 bikes in June, 08 but the new re-designed jiffy stands had not arrived at the factory yet. So, they installed 08 jiffy stands on the 09 bikes and shipped them out the door. Many customer complaints began to be received so in the interest of promoting better relations with customers, the MOCO decided they would replace jiffy stands of those customers who complained. There was never a recall. I think they officially called it a "Good will offering". Anyway, there is no cost to bike owners if you have one of the 08 jiffy stands on your 09 bike. It takes about 15 minutes to swap it out. It is a big improvement and should be done especially by older folks who sometimes struggled to upright their 1000 pound behemoths.

 

i have a 09 with a 21" wheel and my bike leans way over. You think harley would give me a new bracket? Can any dealer install a warranty fix or do you have to go to the one that you bought it from? The one i bought it from is way far away

You need something like the 'kickstand wedge', but for the late-model touring-series. Found one thru the 2007 touring models...

I do believe this may be the issue for some Ultras. I have a 2010 SE Ultra and my brother has a 2009 Ultra. His 2009 leans over far more than my 2010. My guess is that changing out the jiffy stand bracket could have as much impact on the lean angle as the length of the kickstand. Just my $.02.

 

Someplace in the HDF I found this article and copied it to a file I keep for reference. I find my Ultra needs lots of "umph" to get it up off the jiffy stand but it could be my advancing years...?

Anyway I believe that there is a Service Bulletin # at the beginning of the following that might help...

If you have a very early production date (June or July) on your 09 Touring Bike you probably have the wrong Jiffy Stand on it.
You will likely know since the bike will be harder to upright since it leans too far to the left.

Hope this helps with the calls to dealerships that are unfamiliar with the issue...

Never occurs to just answer the questions? As with you I am in search of a longer kick stand unrelated to the 09 issue but similar in nature.

Raised the bike with wheels and now it leans farther than it should. There are several lowered jiffy stands but no-one seems to market a longer (higher) one.

They are certainly not one size fits all. Any way I found that the stand on my 2010 from the outside of the bend is 12" and the 05 RK stand is 14" so I have one coming and will let you know how it works out. The 2x4 trick is fine in the garage but not too practical traveling.

I have found a work around similar to how the new 09 mount works. I cut a piece of polyurethane 3/4" w x 1" long and removed the nut washer and stop from the top of the jiffy stand. Inserted the piece behind (frame side) of the stand then turned the stop upside down and reinstalled the stop washer and bolt. The stop holds the shim in place and reversed it gives more length to the front side to secure the bike with the stand down. This will raise the bike about an inch. Not necessarily as upright as the factory intended but much easier to bring off the stand and it doesn't lean like the tower of Pisa.

I'll update you after I try the longer stand from the earlier model.

You would think Hogpro, Coastal Moto or one of the many manufacturers selling or making larger wheels would have this item in their offerings by now?

 

I've been sitting in the background, looking through as many of these threads as possible, to no avail. I will at least make members aware of what I know DOESN'T work.

I have the 21/18 Hogpro combo on my Ultra. Progressive 440's (heavy-duty springs, stock length) in the rear, Monotube cartridge kit (stock length) up front. I did the suspension a year before I did the wheels.

The bike leans over way too far. I know I put a post up a while back to a link where I found some extended kickstands. Including the latest one by Performance Machine, I have tried 4 of these so-called "Extended Kickstands". None of them fix this problem. I believe they only fix lean angle issues if you only replace the front wheel with a 21", and do nothing with the rear.

Before purchasing the stand from Performance Machine, I e-mailed them, and spoke with a gentleman named Rick Preuss in their tech support. I told him my wheel combo and asked what made their stand different. He said the 1" length, and the lean angle was different.

Needless to say, the PM kickstand, although of good quality and appearance, did nothing. since then, my emails to PM tech support have been ignored. I sent them a bunch of pics as well. the angle of the stand is identical. It is a worthless waste of $100.00.

I am going to have to resort to building my own spacers or something, to mimic the sidestand wedges available for earlier bikes. So far, I have seen nothing out there to alleviate the problem, save for lowering kits or something for the suspension.

Problem solved. Used two of the 3/8" spacers included with one of my Progressive shock kits. One on either side at the top of the jiffy stand bracket. This angles it out at the top just enough so that you don't need to ream out the bolt holes. Longer bolts, and everything bolts down flush and tight. works great.
