Well, yes and no. You have to remember that the more of a "lean angle" the more weight is actually placed on the side stand and the more that weight will want to make the side stand dig into the ground. In the summer time, depending upon where you are forced to park, that could be the difference between your bike digging in and falling over (or not). The more "upright" the bike is, the less weight is on the stand. That's the only reason I myself made the change. The bike wasn't too heavy for me but any weight you can eliminate from the side stand is a good thing overall.

I wasn't worried about it falling over. It was hard for this short woman to pick it up off the kick stand with it leaning that far over. Especially when the kick stand sinks down into dirt surfaces. Almost got stranded a few times. Not a good feeling!

Wouldn't a longer stand make the bike lean even more?

When I first got my bike I would set the sidestand and then start to lean it and freek out that it was going over for sure. And then when you park with the front down and it would roll forward I was sure it was going down. After a while you just get used to and start to realize they did a lot of thinking on that stand. It really is one of the best designs out there. How many harleys are resting on them as we speak?

That's not the point of this thread. For 2009, early Touring models had the wrong bracket installed from the factory creating a bit too much "lean" and there is a new bracket to correct it. Calling MOCO could get you a new one installed for free from your Dealer / Stealer (who will likely down-play this or be totally ignorant about it). I just went and bought one and replaced it myself. (HD used the standard bracket that's been used in previous years but forgot that the 2009s have a totally new frame and that caused the bike to lean over further on the stand.)

Exactly what johnkn said. Dealer install my replacement bracket today and bike does not lean as far over. Early 09's had wrong bracket installed. Bought mine in Sept. All was warranty.

It's not the kickstand, it's the bracket that the kickstand goes in. Here's what I got from somebody in the know:

This newer bracket, as you’ve likely heard, stands the bike up taller. It has “OE” in raised letters on the back side to easily differentiate it. The new bracket stands the bike up about 3° taller when on the sidestand, which substantially reduces the lift-off effort. For reference, the original bracket was p/n 50078-08, which was used from Job 1 up until October 2, 2008. The new bracket is p/n 50096-09.

There's the facts. If your 2009 bike was manufactured before Oct. 2, 08 you have the wrong bracket. My local dealership didn't even know there was a difference......I learned about it on the CVO owners forum and educated them. They made the call to HD and learned what I was telling them to be the truth.

The dealership replaced under a warranty repair for free.

POST# 57 above shows the two brackets side by side and explains the differences.
