Default Molex Connectors

Replacing the stock bars on my Ultra with internally wired Wild One 575's. There are several threads that outline changeover procedure however most were done on pre '07 Ultras. In '07 HD changed wiring connectors from Deutsch connectors that are relatively easy to disassemble and reassemble to Molex connectors. No info in service manual about Molex connectors. Anyone have experience they would be willing to share regarding disassembling and reassembling molex connectors. I could cut and resolder but would prefer not to unless that is the only way to thread the wires thru the bars.

I did this on my 08 flhx. The ttrick is to put a pair of needle nose pliars in the center two holes and pull the center piece out. Then get a small pick to pull the tabs back and remove the wires. The wires will only come out if they are straight up and down. If they roll then wont come out. remember to write down which wire came out of each position on the plug . if something dont work after you put it back together match up the wire colors with the other end. chances you got one transposed. It really is as easy as it sounds.
Good luck

Here are some pics

First pull back the center locking plate like so. Just pull it back until it stops. It will not come all the way out.

Then insert a small rod. In this case I used a small drill bit inverted. I used the shank end not the twist drill end. Push it in until you hear the pop or click....

Then gently pull the wire from the rear...

Hope this helps.

yep, just like they said...and it is that easy. just remember to make a diagram before starting. a large paper clip will also work. the instructions are also in the manual. towards the back. i don't remember which section..i thinkwhere the electrical diagrams are. i recently did this myself.

There are also a couple of companies that sell molex extensions that just plug in so that you don't have to solder additional wire in if your handlebars need them. Found them to be extremely easy to use.

You don't need to extend the wires on an 07 Ultra for 575's.

I've read alot of posts suggesting you don't need to extend the wires when replacing stock bars with Wild One 575 bars on an '07 Ultra.

I know it can be done but can it be done allowing the left and right handlebar control connectors to be returned and secured in their original position? There is definitely extra wire under the fairing but is there that much?

I know...details...details...details.

Dr Plastic: Thanks for the help. It doesn't get any better than that.

Hopefully I'll get a chance to try it out sometime this week after work.

Thanks again.

Going back together was made simple by inserting all the wires thru the back of the plug (dont forget the seal) far as you can, insert the wire in the correct holes and thru the plate. When youre sure you got it right just push the assembly and all wires will click in place.
