Default HID headlight problem

Has anyone had any problems with the ballast on the HID headlight? I installed one two years ago and now the low beam won't start. It flickers for a few seconds and then goes out completely. I turn the switch off and back on, the same thing happens. The high beam works but not the low beam.

Any help would be nice. I have got a part number from OSRAM for the ballast. It's $92 + shipping.

I would hate to think I will need to buy a new ballast every couple of years.

Here is a photo of the ballast...

The link above is to the light at Harley-Davidson.com
or a part number is 68094-06C

This is the light that I'm referring to on the above post.

Before I went for anything Hi voltage I'd check the low voltage feed and ground. I had a reportedly high quality unit on a BMW LT and the point of failure repeatedly was the relay that I replaced three times before I had any sustained success.

Thanks artt, I'll check on the relay and other connections. I hope that is it.

I don't think your ballast is the problem (especially if the highbeam bulb lights). Check all your wiring and the grounds for the headlight.

Exclamation Test before buying anything

1)- HD are low beam only & not Hi/Lo. There are many things that can go wrong with HD’s system other than a ballast. They are either on or off. A halogen bulb is your high beam.
2)- You should not put a different ballast from a different manufacturer in place. Each company has their own plugs and electrical requirements. Use the same ballast if in fact that is the problem.
3)- Test everything before spending money
4)- A ballast will last around 3,000 hours, much longer than you have ridden that bike and more than likely longer than you will live unless you damage it in some way.
5)- Why would you only want HID on low beam?

I was going to go with this HID, would you guys not recommend it? Any advantages or disadvantages to going with an HID?

I don't care what HID Light Kit you buy but the light output compared to stock is probably 80% brighter and the distance you can see down the road is almost doubled. Plus the low beam lights up both road shoulders so you can see the deer grazing before your right on top of them. I have the MotorCycle Metal Kit and have to say his customer service is top notch.
