I went with the PIAA's. They're nice and bright, but they don't make an 800 type bulb, so I changed the lamps to the kind that uses an H-3 type bulb. The output looks like HID, for alot less money.
Gonna put better bulbs in my 08 RK but am seriously confused about the choices available. I know about HID but think it too expensive for my needs. What is the difference between Plasma GT-X and Super Plasma? Also Extreme white and Extreme white plus? How about Zenon? Is the bulb number for the passing lights 862? Can't find the bulbs with the special L shaped connector needed for the passing lights. Whom have you purchased from?
I didn't see it on HD's site but their catalog has an illumination comparison between the stock headlight, their HID, and their new dual bulb halogen headlamp. The $150 dual bulb assembly does much better than the stock unit and almost what the HID does. I installed the dual bulb unit but only got to ride one time, by myself, at night since then so I don't have a side by side comparison. I can say on high beam, where both bulbs are on (90 watts), it is noticeably better than the stock unit.
Dual Bulb Halogen Headlamp Kit
"The Dual Bulb Halogen Headlamp features advanced reflector optics and separate bulbs for high and low beam functions. The euro-inspired projector beam styling combines a state-of-the-art look with a CAD designed faceted reflector bowl that is optimized for crisp patterns and light cut-off. The single upper bulb functions in low beam, and both upper and lower bulb operate in high beam. The low beam setting produces a wide curb-to-curb light pattern, and the high beam adds focused light down the center of the lane without compromising width. Kit includes housing, 55-watt low beam halogen lamp, 35-watt high beam halogen lamp and all necessary mounting hardware. Does not meet ECE regulations."
Having experience with Hella OEM Euro-code (E-code) headlights on two sport sedans I purchased a 7" E-code headlight from Susquehanna Motorsports, re-using the H4 80/100w bulb I installed in the HD lamp the day I bought the bike.
I have a Harley HID kit on my bike, but don't recommend it. It is very expensive and, unless they have revised them since I bought mine, has very limited performance.
The dip light beam is very shallow, so you cannot see the road right in front of the bike, also the cutoff at the top of the beam is very severe, like looking out under a black velvet curtain. Main beam is not worthy of the name and adds nothing useful to dip.
The dip beam is very wide, giving excellent daytime notice, but so shallow it is no good in the dark. Get yourself a much cheaper and better alternative!
If you change your "lamps" to these, you can use any H-3 bulb.

I just had local dealer install these lights on my '07 FLHX as wanted to retain the FLHX look. These lights work awesome in extreme dark. I highly recommend them.
