Default Passing lights

Does anyone know what type of bulb is used in the late model passing lamps? I know it isn't an H3. I'm thinking maybe an H8, but........

I'm thinking "sealed beam".

I added the passing lamps to my 08 Fat Boy and the lamps are sealed beam. They did offer 3 different styles of sealed beam though.

The passing lamps on my 2006 RK are not sealed beam. I'm not sure of the bulb number, but I know that it cost me $15.95 at the local Harley Stealer!

I was riding home last night and I someone flashed their high beam on me to let me know I had my high beams on. I didn't but I had my passing lights on. I thought you were supposed to ride with them on but after some experimenting last night I showed that the passing lights shine high and may be to bright for on coming cages. Is there a general rule about riding with passing lights on at night? I can't keep reaching for the toggle switch every time I see on coming traffic. I'm sure they're fine on during the day.

Sounds like your passing lights need to be aimed. They should not shine higher than your low beam.

Exactly. Aim them and use them.

Don't have it with me (have to pick up plywood after work with the pickup) at the moment but I think MOM lists the bulbs. If not I know the SM does.

The bulbs are Harleys own number and not H-3 for sure. HD way of making you buy everything from them is my guess. Makes no difference what # they are as you can only buy them from HD. I bought one bulb for my research on passing lamps & HID/modulators, this is how I know.

My 04 RK Police model has sealed beam passing lights. They are switched independently as they were once the red and blue lights that we don't like to see in the mirror. I run with high beam and passing in the day and low beam and passing at night.
