I have a 2011 RKC my question is can you just replace the bulbs in the passing lamps? I am at work right know i can't pull the lights out right know. Just wanting to improve the lighting. I have already replaced the stock headlight bulb with H4 silverstar. Thanks for your response.

So you want to improve the lighting at work??? You can technically cut the rubber boot and install a bulb, however they are not designed to do that anymore; rather it is a complete sealed bulb. I have seen people pull off the rubber boot and use an H3 bulb.
My experience with silver star bulbs is not good...... Might want to have a spare.
And the bulbs in the passing lamps on my Limited are replaceable. They are like GM fog lamp bulbs with a Delphi connector on the back. Just remove the trim ring on the front to remove.

My RKC is an 08 but the passing lights on the new ones LOOK just like mine. I don't know where this "sealed" business came from. The passing lights take 800 series bulbs, some are straight, some have a 90 degree base. You need the 90 degree base, PGJ13 base if memory serves tonight. The factory bulbs are 27 watts. Available are 37.5 watt and 50 watt bulbs. Most of the 37.5 bulbs have a little blinder in the end of the bulb so the filament is "shaded" from on-coming drivers. 896 is one of the 37.5 watt choices available from Autozone, Oreilly, and most other car parts stores. I have never seen a 50 watt in this series with the little shade over the filament. I tried some 50s and they were a terrible glare to on-coming drivers. I use the 37.5 now. They are a direct "plug and play" replacement. If the 11 year passing lights are not the same as mine, I have just wasted your and my time, hope that is not the case.
I am also trying an Eiko 49111 H4 headlight bulb, it is 100/80 watts. It is rated for 150/700 hours average life. The Silverstars and other 100/80 watt bulbs typically are in the 100 to 300 hour life range. If you stick with any of those, as was previously recommended, carry a spare, you'll likely need one about every year. The Eiko bulb can be special ordered through Oreilly but it seems easier and less expensive to order it over the internet. Google that number and several outlets will come up. Good luck with whatever you choose.
