Default Curious. Why did you buy a "Touring Bike"

I'm just curious why people buy touring bikes. Now I know to some people this may seem like a stupid question, but i'll explain. I see a lot of custom touring bikes with 18 and 20" front wheels, extended bags, ape's etc. Do they actually tour with them? I have a 09 SG on order, I love the custom look of the bike. A good portion of the riding I will be doing is around town and to work, but I plan on adding a tour-pak and comfy things for touring with the misses. I'm not blasting anyone for what they do with thier bike, and I'm not trying to get blasted by asking. Just curious.

Seasons Greetings to all.

20,000 miles in two years, plus a major accident, and quite a few 500+ mile days. So yes its won a few shows and it gets ridden. It's all personal taste.

I ride daily and year around here in San Diego. My bike is my primary transportation - only when the weather is bad do you ever see me in a cage. I like the Touring models because they're big, heavy and comfortable. Those hard bags hold lots of stuff for everyday shopping errands, going to/from work, etc. and they're sturdy and stand up to heavy use.

They are comfortable for one or two up, they carry all my crap, they ride really smooooth, and I can jam with the music while still have upper and lower protection from the elements. Did I say they ride great and are really smooooth?

I just like the feel of the ride much better. Both of my bosses have a Deuce, and a coworker has a Wide Glide, they are beautiful bikes and sit low, but I prefer the comfort and ride of my RKC. And as Ironhead said...it's all personal taste.

I had a few reasons.

I already have the nimble road-sports angle covered so I wanted to add a big, comfortable touring bike for relaxed touring solo and with the wife.

I also wanted floorboards and found that the "A" motor felt noticeably more powerful than the "B" motor in the Softails when I rode them back to back.

And I wanted ABS.

All of which directed me to the Touring Family.

Had a Honda Sabre to test the waters of the V-Twin world. Liked it, but on long hauls the wind beat the tar out of me, but hurt, right wrist was beat, and I had no place to carry road sodas! Now I have fearing, cruise, jams, and a place for all those road sodas Now I can ride all day and not feel wiped out.
