All you guys that did the change to the 07 style set up, what did you have invested in the kit and the labor
I did the conversion in spring '07. At that time I bought everything at 20% off and the parts ran just under $1000(not counting the 95" parts). 15,000mi and all's well.
+1 on Herko Bagger. I have been in contact with him via e-mail on (ahem another board ) and have ordered the complete kit with Andrews 21C cams. These worked out best for my riding style and requirements, so that's what I went with. The entire kit was about $860.00 shipped out to me, so while it isn't cheap, it is something that I can do myself and get a lot of bang for my buck.
Excellent customer service and a no pressure at all. Drop him a line.
Ping - Just to clarify, are you referring to a limited selection of cams for gear drive applications, or for the Andrews conversion?
Zach
Zach, I was referring to the cams available with the '07 conversion. Gear drive versions of cams are very extensive, at least from the aftermarket vendors. That isn't the case from those vendors when it comes to the conversion cams.
Hey Pingman - I thought that was what you meant, just wanted to be sure. But I have another question. Is the conversion kit only compatible with "conversion cams"?
I guess I thought the conversion just changed to the new tensioners and utilized the narrow chain sprocket. If my ASSumption is right, any of the Head Quarters, Zippers, HD, Andrews, etc '07 and later cam listings should work, right?
You know a lot more about these applications than I do, so that's why I'm asking. Hopefully it will help the OP make his decision.
Thanks,
Zach
Edited to remove S&S from the list. Looks like they only offer gear driven cams...... seems like that may be your point.
"+1 on Herko Bagger"
"ordered the complete kit"
"it is something that I can do myself."

Have you completed this DGlide? Not arguing with you but IMO I don't think John's kit is expensive. It includes the inner bearings and all the run to the store items. Plus I don't mind paying an american for his quality work. Are the inner cam bearings in his kit the famous "timkin" bearings? Did you have them installed or do it your self?
