National Life member and local member. Past Chapter Director and current Road Captain. We have a small chapter of 120 members but we had 34 show up on New Years Day for our annual Cold Butt Ride. It was 32 degrees when we left. That is cold for southern Louisiana. Like anything else in life you get out of something what you put into it. Our chapter is very active and I have made many many life long friends from the group.
I have been a national member since I bought my RKC in 03, but just recently became a local chapter member since I retired and moved to FL. Also, this year, I signed my wife up as a national associate member and she too now is part of the local chapter.
National came with bike and as of now, plan to renew. Never have time due to work to attend any of the local H.O.G. chapter meetings/rides even though there are three within 2 to 15 miles of me.
Think I will check out the local where we are moving to soon in AZ if nothing else to meet some like minded folk as we know absolutely nobody in the area.
If they snub young'ens or metrics however, they would not be for us. Owned metrics for a lot of years and it will be another year probably before we upgrade wife to HD. Since she is my main riding buddy, no way I want her to feel "left out" on her Star. I don't care what anyone rides.
why would i pay dues to belong to this poser club, its kinda like the stealer ships v. p. club filled with a bunch of newbs that cant make up their minds on how much money they are going to donate to the stealer this year. I got a life so get over it!!!!
Ihear the term "poser" bantered around a lot in the motorcycle community.
What is a poser? Iunderstand that after an event in 1947 in Ca that the AMA wrote in an article in their magizine which stated; 99% of all of their members are law-abiding citizens and only 1% are outlaw. This then, began what is today known as 1%ers.
If as person is a law abiding citizen that enjoys the freedom of riding his/her motorcycle and a member of the 99% a poser or is it because they take advantage of the benefits of wearing leather?
I read it most often as a condescending attitude that "I have rode longer than you therefore you are a poser"
After the movie "Wild Hogs", I think the term "Poser" can be thrown around with a little more levity now. I do agree that there are too many titles used and names thrown, such as RUBs etc. Who really takes that serious, let's just ride..
Anyone who really gets wrapped up in that stuff is probably wearing a wrist watch anyway and is likely too **** retentive..
National member for roadside insurance only. I did one ride with a local HOG group. Not my thing. Too many of your poser's TRYING to ride. It was scary.
National member, but have not joined the local chapter. No real reason other than I am good 10 years younger than the members. They seem like good folks, and may look at it sometime in the future. The other thing is I like riding alone. Kinda helps clear the head.
I had a national HOG membership but only for the roadside assistance plan. I have since moved to AAA, who has a much better roadside plan. I have no interest in MC clubs. I don't want to jade the fun and relaxation I get from riding with club politics.
