I don't think there is much different between being a local HOG member and a member of HD Forums. Poser? I think you need to relax a bit. Chill out!

Both a National and Local Chapter Member - and have been in 3 different countries. Work has me moving every couple of years and a local HOG chapter is a great and quick way to meet new people and make new friends outside of the work environment. After all, you can drink beer, tell lies and talk Harleys just about anywhere in the world.

My wife and I are members of both. I joined just a couple months ago to see if it is worthwhile. After a year I will see how it went. Part of what you get out of it is what you put into it and I have never been a club or joiner kind of person. I am trying to spread my wings a bit and network with other riders, since none of my friends ride.

What I do not understand are the few hostile responses this thread has received. What is up with that?

My issue with local chapters is that they are not very accommodating or welcoming of the mid 30's and younger crowd from my experience.

Most local chapters from my experience are full of the mid 40's and older crowd who are the same people who started the clubs at the very beginning of HOG. Over the years they have brought their buddies into the mix but still don't do enough to get in the young blood.

It is funny that this is the situation though considering that the MOCO is targeting their advertising to the younger crowd now, it will be interesting how the MOCO now figures out how to get them into HOG, both local and national, with the issues that exist.

I wouldn't mind joining a local, but at this point being in the military and moving all the time all I need is a national membership. I look at HOG as a means for people to get to know others who love to ride....

If you think that HOG has problems attracting younger riders, you should see the G.W.R.A. (Gold Wing Riders Association) and all their "Troops" located throughout the Country. You need to be retired and almost on life support (Newsletters often include obituaries etc.) to fit in with that bunch and I know for a fact that the group is so stereotyped, that it is impeding sales of the Gold Wing to those who would appreciate it's "sport bike" like handling (i.e. the younger rider crowd). It's a OLD FART organization at best and makes H.O.G. look like outlaws..

I tried going to a local event in Fort Huachuca Arizona.......talk about retired. Should have figured that one out since other than the military folks running around the area is a retirement community.

I did win a prize for my Sportster though...ha ha

Well, time will tell if local groups start welcoming us young guns.
