Default SG VS Heritage

I am in the market for a bike and rented a SG 2 weeks ago and loved it, problem is I rented a Heritage yesterday and today and loved it also.

I had narrowed it down to these two bikes from the numerous demo days I went to so then I decided to rent and hoped that one would stand out, didn't happen. I thought one would be more comfortable but I put 300 miles on the SG in one day and it was a breeze and I put about 550 miles on the Heritage and that was also a breeze.

My observations from the bikes was that the SG was a little more stable running on the highway at 70 to 80 but just a very small difference. The Heritage seemed easier to drive/ maneuver a slow speeds but I think that could be b/c of the rear tires on the bikes being a different size. The thing I like about the SG is the stereo which surprises me b/c I didn't think I would want a bike with a radio.

I hadn't drove a bike in some 18yrs but I have to say that both bikes are extremely nice to ride.

Now my problem is what to buy I am really having a difficult time deciding. I know you guy's are going to tell me the SG but why?

I was going to get Road King until I test Rode the SG and heard the tunes. My opinion is biased though, you could buy speakers and install them on the Heritage to hook up your ipod, Zumo, or XM radio to it?

Good luck with your decision

I like them both but would pick the Street Glide for me. One reason is I have the stereo on all the time, the weather channel is handy when a storm is brewing. I like the fairing over just the windshield. The hard bags are lockable on the SG but there are options for the Heritage, not as secure but lockable. On the really hot days they both get hot but the Heritage has the oil tank under the seat and can be a little hot on the right leg. Have fun deciding as they are both sharp bikes and I have been surprised to find the comfort is good on either bike.

Well, if you plan on long distance travel, then a touring platform is the way to go. The saddle bags on a SC are easier to get into and offer you the option of using a lid hauler should you need more luggage room. There is less vibration from the touring platform. The radio option is good. Its cheaper to start with a touring platform than transform a bike into one.

I vote for the SG, but I'm biased because I had one. I rented a Heritage Softail in Las Vegas 10 years ago and loved the ride, but I can't get past all the damn studs on the seat and bags. It'd cost me $1500 at least to de-stud the bike so I could ride it. And I love the tunes - once you get used to riding with a radio you'll wonder how you ever got along without it.

I've got an 08 street glide and my cousin has an 08 heritage. When we go riding on some twisties, he's dragging a lot and I don't at all. He's got Samson pipes on it and that may be the main thing on the right turns, but his kickstand drags on the left turns too. He always ends up either slowing way down or not being able to stay in his lane when I have no problem at all. We don't ride very agressive, so I would be real concerned about the cornering ability of a Heritage.

I just traded in a sweet Heritage on a Street Glide. To me there's a big enough difference between them to justify the SG. Always enjoyed riding the Heritage, but the SG really gives me a big grin. Really like the stereo and the fairing.
