Default SE Air Filter

I have seen several posts stating that the HD Blue air filter is garbage and it should be replaced. I recently had the SE Air Cleaner installed and the filter is Black. Is this a good quality filter or should I replace it with the K&N HD-0818? Thanks

I used mine for a year, then replaced it with the K&N!

The newer SE filter is fine, the older blue one was junk. They changed and now they are washable, but don't get oiled. Just wash it every now and again and you should be fine, or you can replace with a K&N, your choice.

+1 on Dawg's comment. The newer SE filter is of higher quality than the older one. I've had mine for a year and 24k miles, wash it every 5k miles or so, and it has held up very well. "DO NOT OIL" it says on the housing.

Hey Dawg,

I have the original 08 HD SE A/C Filter PN 29244-08. Is this the same PN for the new washable HD filter?

I would just get the K&N but thats me. 1 Less thing to worry about unless you want to be the first one with first hand experience on how the are junk. I had a little rust popping through on the chrome plate on the K&N in my truck. Emailed K&N to see if i could buy a new plate and they asked for a picture along with my address so they could send me a new one. Sent that to them and had a brand new filter in 3 days along with free return shipping for my old one.

Personally I went K&N on both my Sportster and Heritage which K&N had a replacement for both SE Filters... Far better and lasts longer between cleans .. JMHO
