Make no mistake about it...Pledge is not a scratch remover for windshields. It is a very GREAT detailer. It may cover up scratches, I don't know. But the fact is that it does help making bug removal easier and on the road tends to help make the bugs easier to get off without scratching.
My experience with Harley windshields over the years is that no matter what scratch remover you use it comes to a point where you wear through the fine film and it really looks like Sheeat after you penetrate that fine film. I have had much better luck with other polycarbonate shields than with the Harley Lexan. My good results have been to keep from scratching it with soaking it or covering with wet paper towels before trying to remove bugs. But on the road a quick spray with Pledge helps more than just wet wiping.
I have a fortune tied up in some of the most expensive products on the market for all different areas of the bike. Actually I have a garage full of half empty cans and bottles from years of trials. There are certain cases where a specific product is the best for the task. But, I have found that I have eliminated 90% of them that Pledge does a better job especially for detailing keeping the bike looking great and keeping that luster and shine year after year without doing more damage than good in the long haul. You can tell I am sold on it...nothing new, no new and improved for me, no reading labels that seem to fit better...Lemon Pledge does detailing extremely well. Since I have found nothing better/easier and no bad effects from it, I don't care if the writing on any label says "For Harleys Only" I will never have any reason to even speculate something better or try anything else for detailing because I can't find any thing I'd like it to do better as far as detailing. Hope this helps those who have never used it to give it a try because it does make life simple and I'd pay 3 times the price for it if I had to.
Mcguires makes a clear plastic cleaner and a polish. I use for all the plastic tail light and headlights. It does a good job on windshields, Just don't rub to hard, let it do the work. Dont laugh, It does a heck of a job on neglected chrome to a point. It works on dull stainless too.
I've used pledge to clean the plastic bubbles on hiller helicopters for at least 20 years. One important practice to keep in mind is always wiping off the windscreen in the same direction every time such as always moving the cloth in a vertical motion only. I discovered this the hard way. Over time, wiping the windscreen in opposing or circular motions will cause some distortion particularly at night.
Pledge may work but keep in mind how it is designed. It has a light solvent in it that dissolves the top layer of the varnish on furniture. The lemon oil in it helps it shine more. For my windshield I am sticking with Plexus and it works good on my plastic prescription glasses too. My HD dealer carries Plexus and another product called Protect All meant as a detailer for all surfaces and it contains carnuba wax.
The thread was started about Pledge protection plus. After some research, I believe the Pledge Clean and Shine would work better than the Lemon Pledge due to being able to use on vinyl and leather for couches, chairs, seat covers, stainless steel, metal & chrome superb on stainless! Excellent for cleaning todays popular metal surfaces quickly. This info comes from http://www.pledge.com
