I'm researching the differences between the Detachable 2 up Luggage Rack p/n 53743-97 and the Luggage Rack for Detachable Passenger Sissy Bar Upright p/n 53011-98.
The way I understand the descriptions out of the HD wish book, is that the rack for the Sissy Bar Upright mounts right to the passenger backrest. So if you remove the passenger backrest, off comes the luggage rack. No additional docking hardware is required for this if a detachable backrest is being used.
Where the detachable 2 up Luggage rack will stay in place even if you remove the passenger backrest, Is this correct ?? Additional docking hardware would be required for this type, correct ??
I saw the rack that attaches on the backrest on a rental RK at the local dealer. The rack has the Road King "V" logo on the side. Everytime the saddle bags were opened it hit the logo medallion and left an indentation in the top of the bag. It looked like no matter how careful you try to be, sooner or later it will hit. That made my mind up as to which rack to go to.
I've been watching ebay for the last two weeks for the 2-up rack, I've seen 7 sell used for more than you can buy a new rack from one of the on-line dealers who give -20%. Unbelieveable.........
I had to go look at my docking points. My 2 up luggage rack uses different points than the backrest so you could have the rack on without the passenger backrest. (or so it appears.) I don't have it installed right now to be sure.
yes if u have the setup for luggage rack and backrest u can take off either one ,can ride with backrest on or luggage rack or both off hope this helps make sure u get the docking kit for backrest and luggage there is a difference
Just installed the detachable luggage rack today, had to buy docking hardware for luggage rack. I can take back rest off - leave luggage rack on or take luggage rack off and leave back rest off. But you do need seperate docking hardware for both.[sm=biker2.gif]
