http://boomerangracing.com/ I got mine from this racing team. The rod ends are RH/LH and they have the rod to go with. For mounting it I went with bolts and nut from a local dealer I decided to get the longer bolts so the gripe length is riding on the rod end.

You could use your original rod - make sure you get a left (and) a right hand threaded joint though.
I used a 1/2" stainless rod, turned down the ends and threaded them.
I didn't use locknuts - I wanted a solid look so I made the rod to the length I needed and loctite'd them.
Looks clean.
Can get a pic if you're interested?

You buy all sorts of other high priced "chrome" for your scooter, why not just get a replacement rod w/ joints right from Harley and dress your bike up at the same time. Thats what I did the first week I owned the bike. Chrome rod w/ heim joints from MOCO. Comes in different designs too. It's a no brainer for about $75.
I don't understand why guys cheap out on this fix. Yea you can replace the ends for about $15-20 but why not just upgrade the looks too? Pick one off the dealers rack, it's a no brainer.. JMO.

Try the Drag Specialties catalog. There are so many possibilities. These are stock items.

if you are reusing your original rod, getting a lh and a rh would be useless since both ends of the stock rod are rh threads.

dude, wtf are you talking about? there is no reason to spend 75 bucks plus, just because i bought the bike for 20 large. personally, i dont like the looks of the rods on the dealer shelf, and am perfectly happy with just a cylindrical rod. also, i'm not a chromaholic, so everything doesn't have to be chromed either. if it were a show bike, maybe i would go with chrome hardware and maybe a chrome rod, but i actually ride my bike, and don't give a **** if the rod is chrome or polished. in fact, if you polish it to a high lustre, it can look better than chrome (imo). so to you i reply, just replace the ends. its a 'no brainer' why spend good money on useless chrome when you can spend it on gas instead?

I bought the exact same one. The heim joints remove the slop in the factory linkage for a firmer feel when shifting.

I made my own shift rod out of 303 stainless and bought 303 stainless rod ends from McMaster-Carr.
