After being stranded 2 times in the middle of nowhere I bought
the round polished stainless steel gear shift linkage #33814-98A
for around 80 bucks. Right after I traded bikes I put the same thing
on my new rkc before it ever left the building. I hate being stranded
I had the same experience - twice the link gave out on me within a year. Both times I was able to get back on the road with a couple tools and 5 minutes time (actually the 2nd time I was about 2 blks from a Dealership so walked in and bought the $80 polished stainless one they have and put it on in the parking lot!).
Either carry a spare OEM rod and/or linkages or get the Heim type and you'll be OK.
I'm going to suggest you avoid the Kuryaykn heim joints....They are really pretty chrome, but they might be like mine and bind up and cause shifting problems.
I had to complain and demand replacements where Ali at Kuryaykn responded and said she is shipping me new ones free of charge and that they will first check for freedom of movement before they ship.
Kuryaykn has very poor quality control where you might wait a week to get your order then discover they are siezed up like I did.
